The American Goldfinch is a common visitor in the Northeast US and Canada and is often seen at feeders in the summertime. The bright yellow color of the male makes it easy to spot in the summer.
However, the American Goldfinch prefers weedy fields. They love Thistle seeds and It is theorized that the female delays nesting until the thistle plant seeds as feeding her young thistle seed discourages Cowbirds from leaving their eggs in her nest.
Goldfinches are beautiful birds to watch and they are a favorite of my grandson who requested this painting.

I love being outdoors and seeing the beauty of nature during all seasons. I love color and the great way you feel when colors come together in just the right way. This is the inspiration for my painting and most of my work depicts scenes from nature.
