Artist's Description

When following a trail into the woods, I think of the many feet that have trod this path before me. The forest is such a beautiful place and it seems that there must be wonderful sights ahead. When the sun is shining and the way is bright, the woods seem so benevolent.

Maybe the dark shadows are hiding those who are not friendly? And now I must choose. Do I continue the journey into the woods or turn back to retrace the path that I know?

I particularly admire the women in our history who have walked a difficult path and have had to make this choice. If they had turned back, they would have stayed in familiar territory and gained the illusion of safety. If they moved forward, they entered the darkness and risked harm to travel to better things. I so admire those who have gone before me who were brave enough to go I...
