Description

In the mid 1900s, there were few eagles in the Great Lakes region of North America. Thanks to efforts of the Bald Eagle Restoration Project which began in 1976 and partnerships between the United States and Canada, our Bald Eagle population continues to grow. It is wonderful to spot a Bald Eagle along the north and south shores of Lake Ontario and Lake Erie or in the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains where they thrive. Their powerful size and distinctive white head help bird watchers identify them and it is always exciting to see them. This painting shows a Bald Eagle in its characteristic flight with wings held flat. Even this Black Bear seems pleased to see the Return of the Eagle.
