Artist's Description
In watching the Black-capped Chickadees, I have come to admire their courage and pluck. They do not hesitate to be the first at the feeder, even when I am standing a foot away. They frolic on the top branches of the trees even during the coldest weather and their song is so bright and clear. They are curious about all that happens and are quick to investigate what we are doing whenever we come outside. For such a small bird, they are so brave! And that is why in many cultures the Chickadee symbolizes strength and fearlessness.
Black-capped Chickadees can be found throughout the northeast US and in New York State we see them in the Catskill and Adirondack Mountains, as well as along Lake Ontario and the Finger Lakes. They are avid visitors to Bird Feeders.
