The Belted Kingfisher is one of the most amazing birds. They can look a bit ungainly when seen perched on a nearby branch but they are amazing flyers and fishers. We have seen them hovering on rapidly beating wings and, when they see a fish, quicky plunging headfirst into the water to grab it and then fly away. They have beautiful feathers of a gray blue color that look very blue when seen against foliage. Surprisingly, they nest in burrows that they dig in the soft earthen banks adjacent to the water. We often see them fishing on Fair Haven Bay in Upstate New York and are always amazed by their beauty and prowess!

I love being outdoors and seeing the beauty of nature during all seasons. I love color and the great way you feel when colors come together in just the right way. This is the inspiration for my painting and most of my work depicts scenes from nature.
