Artist's Description
A Fawn awaits the return of her mother. Fawns rest in secluded locations while the mother forages for food. Generally, the mother returns two or three times during the day to nurse her baby. The fawn may change location on its own. This fawn has chosen a shady spot in the tall grass under a tree.
White-tailed Deer are the most common Deer species in North America, ranging from the Atlantic coast to the Rocky Mountains, from Canada to Central America and all the way to the Florida Keys. In New York State, they are found everywhere - particularly in unoccupied forest land and throughout the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains.
This White-tailed fawn is spotted "Waiting" on a sunny day for her mother to return.
