Swans are my favorite water bird. In this painting, a Mute Swan with raised wings begins a dance across the water. Mute swans often swim with their wings arched. This behavior is called busking and is believed to be an aggressive display to defend their territory - and their family. It is one of the most beautiful dances of a water bird. I often watch them from our boat and marvel at their beauty and grace.
